Welcome to Pi Associates
Pi Associates is an expert training, organisation development, management development and consulting practice. Established in 1988, we are based in Wales
but work across the U.K, and in many overseas locations.
Our Credentials
Leadership, management and organisation development has been Pi Associates’ core business for 20 years and has been enhanced for 2008 by the addition of new team members with considerable expertise and experience in these domains.
Pi’s Evidence of Strategic approach.
Pi has considerable experience of working at a strategic level. Pi team members have at various times acted as consultants to strategic partnerships, public service providing and commissioning Boards across sectors and more recently since the Beecham Report to the evolving Local Service Boards. In addition we have facilitated leadership programmes for senior executives.
Pi’s Experience of Public Service Transformational Change
Pi Associates has experience in the UK and internationally in supporting public service organisations that have undergone major transformational change. We believe we have the credentials, transferable skills and appropriate capacity to deliver relevant training and OD interventions to contribute effectively to organisation development.
Internationally we have worked at Ministerial advice level in transforming public services from direct state control systems to more market orientated contracting systems. We have also been involved with supporting organisations implementing major transformational change in the UK following legislative reform resulting in major changes to the methods of delivering careers and education business services, mental health and learning disability services and economic regeneration services.
Particular Functional Expertise
The Pi Team is particularly able to support individuals/organisations in Health and Social Care Sector, the Third Sector and working within Partnerships. However, the range of expertise and transferable skills within the Pi Team means that there is very broad experience across the public sector.
In the private sector Pi has worked at board senior executive and senior manager level providing leadership programmes, change management and cultural transformation projects. We have also been heavily involved in skills development for senior managers in this sector.
Experience in diagnosing OD change needs
Organisational Development is concerned with an organisation’s:
- health;
- effectiveness;
- capacity to solve problems;
- ability to adapt and change;
- ability to create a high quality of life for its employees
Any successful intervention must be based on a thorough and accurate analysis of where the root of the problem is and what the effects on the organisation of the intervention are likely to be. Our approach to organisational development diagnosis would start with an analysis of the organisation’s current position, including consideration of previous interventions, and the key issues faced in delivering operational and business plans through dialogue with key players.
This needs assessment could involve one, or a combination, of the following methods of collecting information.
- Interviews
- Focus Groups
- Questionnaire
- ‘360’ Assessment
- SWOT
The eventual diagnosis would be discussed and agreed with the client to inform the next stage of the process and agree the most effective way forward to address the issues.
Evidence of Flexible Interventions
All of Pi Associate’s interventions are based on a thorough analysis of the problem, the issues and the most appropriate intervention. The Pi Team can draw on a wide range of expertise and skills that would ensure that the most appropriate intervention is made. Pi will also look outside the immediate team to find skills and experience that may be needed to build on those within the team. Pi has worked collaboratively and succesfully with other organisations.
Evidence of capacity building
Capacity building is defined as the "process of developing and strengthening the skills, instincts, abilities, processes and resources that organisations and communities need to survive, adapt, and thrive in the fast-changing world.[ Philbin, A, (1996) Capacity Building in Social Justice Organisations, Ford Foundation,]
Capacity building refers to activities that improve an organisation’s ability to achieve its mission or a person’s ability to define and realise his/her goals or to do his/her job more effectively. For organisations, capacity building may relate to almost any aspect of its work: improved governance, leadership, mission and strategy, administration (including human resources, financial management, and legal matters), programme development and implementation, fundraising and income generation, diversity, partnerships and collaboration, evaluation, advocacy and policy change, marketing, positioning and planning. For individuals, capacity building may relate to leadership development, advocacy skills, training/speaking abilities, technical skills, organising skills, and other areas of personal and professional development.
The Pi Team can draw on expertise and skills to address all of the issues defined above and many of the projects that it has been involved with in the past have been based on a capacity building requirement.
Pi´s Learning Oriented Culture
Pi Associates is a learning organisation that believes in investing time and effort in professional development. Individual members of the Pi team continue to undertake professional development through a wide range of initiatives. We have a very broad experience with all the team members having worked across sectors and across professional domains. We have undertaken cross sector secondments and have considerable international experience in developing countries This has enabled us to build a broad range of transferable knowledge, skills and practical techniques that can be applied to help organisations and individuals meet the needs of the rapidly changing environment. On a formal level Pi has also committed itself to the Investors in People Standard.
